lyrics

Helen

the doctor picked me up when i was born
my face was blue, round my neck was the chord
i tried screaming out to the world but it turned black
but i’m sitting here so i guess you know
that one way or another they got me going
i might have started out a little slow but i’ve made some tracks

the day i came in it was helen’s big bang
and three days later ashes rained
over the city of queens found on the plains, those were my first skies
maybe thats why i’ve never been scared
when a storm starts brewing up in the air
me and mother nature just happen to share our lullabies

don’t you ever be afraid to fly
it would be a shame if being born was the hardest thing we try

if i thought things were tough right out the gate
it piled so high i couldn’t see the plate
i’m not sure if i believe in fate, but here i am
a few close calls in some totaled cars
times i shoulda left my keys at the bar
i walked away with barely a scar, a lucky man

you might think after a couple wrecks
it’d be enough to get my life in check
but you’ll never find me behind a desk, the roads for me
and the roads aren’t the only things with curves
ladies don’t get the warning signs they deserve
when i should hit the breaks but i try to swerve its alone for me

don’t you ever be afraid to ride
it would be a shame if there were no one by your side

when its time to lay me down
or spread my ashes all around
i hope that there’s more smiles than frowns, from knowing me
when you gather round my friends
make some noise and drink it in
you can drop me at the church but i ain’t going in, not knowing me

when its time to lay me down
or spread my ashes all around
i hope that there’s more smiles than frowns, from knowing me
when you gather round my friends
make some noise and drink it in
you can drop me at the church but i ain’t going in, not knowing me

don’t you ever be afraid to fly
it would be a shame if being born were the hardest thing you try
don’t you ever be afraid to fly
it would be a shame if being born were the hardest thing you try

The Snake Oil Salesmen regina, Saskatchewan

The Snake Oil Salesmen grew up in the First Nations and small towns of Southern Saskatchewan, each band member coming from long lines of storytellers and musicians.
The result is a passionate, delicious blend of rocking, grooving, and story-telling, that bites like a prairie rattler, goes down like a fine wine and tosses your inhibitions to the wind. The Snake Oil Salesmen, drink it in.
